Nuvia Limited supports IRPA 13, the world’s largest ever gathering of radiation protection expertise

IRPA 13 -

The 13th International Congress of the International Radiation Protection Association will take place in the UK on 13 -18 May 2012. Held every four years the UK’s Society for Radiological Protection were successful in their bid for the Congress to be held here – a second successful bid by the UK for 2012 (think London and sport).

The Congress will take place in Glasgow, and presents a wonderful opportunity for professional development and advancement of the science and practice of radiation protection. The Congress titled ‘Living with Radiation – Engaging with Society’ covers a wide range of topics from biological effects of ionising radiation, measurement and dosimetry, RP system development, non-ionising radiation, planned exposure situations in industry, medicine, research and waste management as well as emergency exposure situations. The Conference will explore the experiences of both Radiation Protection (RP) professionals and the wider stakeholders such as decision makers, communities, the media and NGOs. There will be a full scientific programme, together with an exciting range of technical visits and an extensive exhibition of products, services and suppliers. IRPA are expecting around 1500 delegates to attend the 5 day event; 700 of these from the UK.

Nuvia has recognized the importance of ensuring the company has a good presence at IRPA13. Representatives from our customer sites as well as our competitors will be attending the event, providing an important opportunity to show off our capabilities and network. Nuvia are Bronze sponsors of IRPA13 and will be exhibiting during the full programme as well as providing both the Congress briefcase and stationary. The sponsorship allows for advertisement in the final programme as well as the inclusion of Nuvia marketing material into the delegate briefcase.

Eleven of Nuvia’s Radiation Protection Advisers and Dosimetrists from across our UK offices will be attending the 5 day event. They will be giving two oral and six poster presentations covering a wide range of topics: Internal dosimetry monitoring and assessments, C-14 dosimetry, RP advice during tank decommissioning at the LETP Harwell, criticality accident dosimetry, an example of our RPA response to the UK Border Agency, RP experience from Sizewell B PWR refueling outages, RP policies and program at Dounreay and waste characterisation using our High Resolution Gamma Spectrometry equipment. A number of the above papers have been written jointly with our customers including EDF, RSRL, DSRL and Quotient Bioresearch.
